Conversion of a 500sf attic.

Portland, Oregon

Built 2009

The existing historic colonial home in section has a strong form. From the roof line to the ground floor the structure pulls into itself at parts and projects off itself in other parts.

The new custom storage systems, which are part of a complete attic renovation, find a dialogue with the language of the existing section of the home. Moving with one another through the length of the space, one storage wall opens up while the opposite wall pushes out. This simple gesture allows the form of home to develop a continuity throughout.

The interior is kept all white, with the exception of the existing fir floors. Finish sheens vary from matte to high gloss to quietly call out details.
