ABOUT:
I believe that designs need to based on user experience and user interaction. The user must be an active participant to allow a design to reach its fullest potential. With this in mind I set out onto a design process that was at a constant level of investigation- always thinking of how the user already interacts the the bench and how I could create a new way of interaction.
In examining how to make a simple object something new (much in the same way the original design of the bench does) I took a plain white shirt and deconstructed it by shredding it. The effect that the shredded shirt created while draped over my body was revealing and playful. It exposed my skin, my joints, my scars, but in a softened new way. I thought that the same effect could be created if the shredded pieces of clothing covered the bench. They could reveal its surface, its joints, its details all while keeping the integrity of the piece in tact.
In the end the pieces that dress the bench can dress the human body. It is up to the user to be playful and intuitive. There are an endless number of possibilities- just stay open and curious.
